Scott E. Moore is a true renaissance man: a gifted musician, songwriter & performer; an accomplished television producer/director; and as founder & host of The Writer's Hang performance series, he has single-handedly created a scene for singer-songwriters of all genres.
A NYC/Hoboken-based artist & NJ native, Scott is a modern acoustic artist whose style is hard to pin down. One European DJ said, "With Scott E. Moore, folk, blues & soul come together...a perfect blend of John Hiatt & Keb Mo." His performances are soulful & intimate affairs, where he takes the audience on a journey, using velvet vocals, tasty guitar playing, clever phrasing and evocative imagery & stories.
His new release "Mr. Misunderstood" organically weaves acoustic soul, Americana, folk, blues & jazz. It's intimate & dynamic, moody & lush, with a subtle, but undeniable groove. Fleshing out the sound is an eclectic group of players from the national jazz, R&B, pop, jam band, alt. country and singer-songwriter scenes, including: Larry Grenadier on acoustic bass (Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny, Erykah Badu), Paul Frazier on electric bass (David Byrne, Chic, Imani Coppola), Tim Beattie on harmonica & lap steel (Marry Me Jane, The 4 Horsemen), Peter Vitalone on Hammond, Wurlitzer & accordion (Richie Havens), Dave Diamond on drums (Zen Tricksters, Jason Crosby). It also features appearances by brilliant singer-songwriters Dayna Kurtz and Jessica Owen. The CD was recorded by John Kurgan (Ellis Paul, Don Conoscenti), mixed by Rich Tozzoli (David Bowie, No Doubt), and mastered by Greg Calbi (Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, David Gray, et al) at Sterling Sound.
"Mr. Misunderstood" is a collection of Moore's strongest and most-requested material to date. "Bye Bye Frankie" is a bluesy shuffle through the streets of Hoboken on the day its favorite son, Mr. Sinatra, died. "Where You Been?" is the heart-wrenching and hopeful tale of a man describing his life to the absentee father who missed out on his son's childhood (the autobiographical song is an intense favorite of fans). "Amsterdam" digs into the dark, soul-search of an ex-patriate on the road to a new sexual identity. And the stories go on from there
The Sundance Channel recently sought out Scott to feature in a new documentary series called "Keeping Time: New Music from America's Roots," created by acclaimed director Gillian Grisman ("Grateful Dawg"). The theme-based, cross-genre shows (airing August, 2003) will highlight artists carrying the torch and redefining traditions, and will also include Gillian Welch, Nickel Creek, Robert Randolph, Bela Fleck, Toshi Reagon, Ralph Stanley and others.
Scott has toured the US and shared stages with a wide array of acts like Kelly Joe Phelps, Cowboy Mouth, Toshi Reagon, Melissa Ferrick & many, many others. His music has been featured on alternative, folk and blues radio throughout the US & Europe, and his first two CD's, "Bridge & Tunnel" & "Songs for the Record," were chosen by Performing Songwriter magazine as Top Indie releases in the country. Scott's songs have been used in television shows and independent feature films. He has also been called upon as a Music Supervisor, utilizing his vast network of artists, expertise and years of experience in the marriage of music and images.
As a television producer & filmmaker, Scott has directed music videos, and has won two ACE Awards for his music documentaries on VH1, working with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Daniel Lanois, Gloria Estefan, Melissa Etheridge, Take 6, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones and many others. His video work has also appeared on A&E, TNT, MTV, Turner Classic Movies, Japanese television and other networks.
Scott E. Moore's acclaimed Writer's Hang series occurs on the first Thursday of each month at The Goldhawk Lounge in Hoboken, NJ. Since 1998, fans have been packing into the intimate, retro living-room space as Scott trades tunes & stories with 2 world-class artists he likes to call "modern singer-songwriters you need to hear."
